Keep Your Upholstery Clean And Intact
Upholstery suffers wear and tear over time, and if you want it last and continue to look good it makes sense to clean and maintain it properly. Tips for that are here.
Upholstery maintenance material comes in a number of forms: dusters / dust cloths; vacuum cleaners; and liquid cleaners.
When dust gathers on upholstery – and it gathers on upholstery just as easily as it does on hard surfaces, it can in the worst case scenarios become abrasive.
As such it should be vacuumed at least once a month. Also, newer vacuum models come with upholstery and crevice nozzle attachments, allowing you to reach every nook and cranny. Brushes do not work as they are only good for making the dust resettle elsewhere.
When upholstery is not being used, you can apply arm and headrest covers to protect it from skin, hair and soil. Odors tend to have the same effect as dust – keep upholstery away from sunlight, cigarette smoke, cooking areas etc. if possible. Keep furniture about two feet away from heat sources. And re-arranging the furniture and cushions would mean that your upholstery would keep its natural shape and gain equal exposure.
If upholstery maintenance matters a lot to you, you may be interested in tips on what is known as “deep cleaning”, which is done using special upholstery shampoo. Although they don’t prevent deterioration of the fabric they do make upholstery maintenance and cleaning easier.
Always read the instructions and check the labels on your furniture.
